New knitted tee: We Are Knitters Dill tee

And here she is: my first piece of knitted clothing, fresh off the knitting needles! I’ve been checking out knitted tees for some time and have a couple of patterns I really want to make but no yarn yet – and some yarn I want to use, but no pattern for that weight. I went to Tolt Yarn and Wool for the first time a few months back with a good friend intending to buy some yarn, but I was just couldn’t find what I was looking for, which is crazy in that amazing shop. Perhaps it was the abundance of choice that led to my indecision, I don’t know.

New knit: Ribbed socks in Unicorn Farts

Yes, you read that correctly. And if you look at the yarn in its virgin state, you can see why! Great name, and I won’t lie – it slightly swayed me towards this colour blend. I was really looking for something that was variegated and that had a main body of white or black and this absolutely fit the bill. Monday montage: Yarn colourfest!

Ooh, I think Spring might almost be here! I don’t want to jinx it, but we have flowers in the garden! And not just crocuses or early Spring flowers, but other flowers (I don’t actually know what they are, but they’re not bulbs). And this is Seattle – not Florida or southern California, so that’s pretty wonderful. In sewing terms it quite excites me too. If I’m honest, I’m not sure Autumn/Winter is the best time to learnt to sew in terms of relevant clothing. Everyone is sewing amazing thick coats or luscious knits, most of which were way beyond my skill level, so I haven’t really been able to join in this year. I don’t mean to make it sound like a big deal – it’s really not, but at least with Spring and (presumably) Summer, I can indulge in my love of dresses and skirts and cotton. Then by next Winter I shall be READY. Do your worst then, COAT DEITY!

Monday montage: Ravelry garment revelry

Oh yes. All things woollen this Monday. My learning to sew has reignited my itch to crochet and my husband bought me a knitting course voucher at Christmas too, so I’ve been looking over all sorts of woollen goodies and crocheting up a few. I love crocheting blankets, scarves and cowls, but when it comes to garments, knitting is the winner for me. I can’t actually knit at all, so it’s pure conjecture and longing at this point, but here’s what’s already going on my Ravelry garment queue… and the first couple are FREE! Woohoo!

First up, I adore these little 50s-esque cardigans in beautiful bold colours, with a sprinkling of lacy detail. This gorgeous number is called Miette and is designed by Andi Satterlund. No doubt that the styling is stunning too. I would quite like to be this perfect fringe girl this morning. Sigh.
