New dress: #sewmystyle August Megan Nielsen Darling Ranges

IMG-20170826-WA0074

This was both a very satisfying and, at the same time, frustrating sew. Satisfying because I got a block of a few hours over two days in which to complete the project. That doesn’t happen too often, so it was nice to knock it out. This dress has actually been on my list and in my possession for some time, and when I saw it was the August sew for #sewmystyle, it encouraged me to take part in the challenge in the first place. What I wanted was a resolutely practical dress in a muted colour scheme that I could use to tie some of my wardrobe together, and that, I think, I did achieve. New make: Cali Faye Pocket Skirt #sewmystyle May

This month the #sewmystyle pattern is a bit of a wardrobe builder and I was really looking forward to it. I used a gorgeous Alison Glass cotton lawn with some jewel-like batik colours and actually really like the final result. The only problem with it is that it doesn’t fit me. Bummer. I’ve taken some not-very-accurate photos (below) to give you some idea of how it might look on, but it should be a lot looser and lower.

New make: #sewmystyle April Bridgetown dress in Frock

April’s pattern for the #SewMyStyle project is the Sew House 7 Bridgetown Backless dress or tunic. I thought about this pattern for a while because of the backless design feature. I really like it, but my days of going braless are long gone and I wasn’t sure I really wanted to bother with a cami or similar. In the end though, I found a few inspirational pics that showed it to be less or more open on different people, and decided to go for the woven version of the dress.

I’m currently at a film festival with my husband halfway up Mount Hood in Oregon, and it’s cold and snowy. In case you’re wondering why I’m wearing hiking boots with a dress and appear to be taking photos in a garage, now you know. 🙂 If you’re interested in what the film festival could be, I’ve left a clue at the end of the post! Enjoy.

New make: #sewmystyle Virginia Leggings

Hello there! A wee catch up post for the March #sewmystyle make, which is… a pair of leggings! Megan Nielsen’s Virginia leggings to be exact. It will therefore be a fairly short post since they are, after all, a comparatively simple item to make. Nevertheless, a good leggings pattern is important! I confess I almost didn’t make them as I have a couple of other leggings patterns, but what swayed me was 1) the reviews were very good and several were by people who have tried many, many leggings patterns and 2) there is a maternity option. I am not pregnant, but I lived in leggings when I was and they might come in useful in the future, if not for me, as a perfect gift for a pregnant friend.

New make: Toaster Sweater #sewmystyle January

This is my first make as part of the #sewmystyle community sewalong. If you don’t know about it, then you can check out the initiative at Bluebird Fabrics or on Instagram with the hashtag, where there are a ton of Toaster Sweaters to peruse. That’s because the challenge involves sewing one collective garment a month (completely voluntary) from now until the end of the year. I plan to be sewing 9 out of the 12 (one, the Saunio cardigan simply will not suit me and two of the others I have alternative patterns for already). This is the Toaster Sweater #2 (there is a quite different #1 version too) from Sew House Seven and it’s the first pattern I’ve sewn from this company.

#StitchingSanta and #SewMyStyle

Hey there! I hope you all had a very lovely Thanksgiving. We headed up to Vancouver and it didn’t occur to me for a while that of course it wouldn’t be Thanksgiving up there (silly European that I am) but we had a great time pottering around and enjoying the city. As far as sewing goes, I’m right in the middle of lots of pre-Christmas projects that I rather annoyingly can’t blog, but it would spoil any surprises that I do actually manage to finish in time.
